Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:8,34)
Just as the first pilgrims gathered to give thanks to God for the blessings of the harvest so long ago, this Thursday most Americans will gather around tables loaded with roasted meats, fall vegetables, crusty rolls, and sweets beyond measure. Truly, the bounty of this rich nation has enabled it’s citizens to flourish! In fact, flourishing is an extreme understatement when the wealth of physical blessings we Americans enjoy are compared with most other people in the world.
Yet in the Biblical view, flourishing is much broader than just the physical, rather our heavenly Father is interested in our heart, mind, soul and strength. He delights in those who commit their whole selves to him by following Jesus in obedient faith (Acts 2:22-41). He wants most of all to bless us eternally and invites us to join in a greater feast than any earthly table can provide (Revelation 19:6-9).
As you join with loved ones to share your time and hearts, our prayer is that you have committed yourself to following in the footsteps of Jesus, where you may truly flourish as God desires.
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5)
