Matt 4:4 – Just like the disciples on the road to Emmaus who had their hearts set ablaze when the Scriptures were explained to them by Jesus — Luke 24:32 we need to dig into the Scriptures and allow the Lord to start explaining the Scriptures to us just as He did to them.

3 things needed to have a blazing fire, fuel, oxygen and heat. Prayer is the oxygen we use to stoke the flames. Spending time in prayer is spending time in the presence of God and the presence of God is the air that our souls need to be a fire.

To build a fire, gather all smoldering firewood or charcoal together. This is why we should never live the Christian life in seclusion.

Everyone must learn how to make a fire – we don’t do it naturally. We need spiritual mentors to teach us how to light our spiritual fires.

Sooner or later, someone is going to offend or let you down in some way. Learning how to put out the fires of bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander along with all malice and light the fires of kindness, tenderheartedness and forgiving one another as we have been forgiven by the Lord. Ephesians 4:31-32

Sharing, communing, participating = fellowship – if there is anything we need today in the church it would be people. God never intended that we go in it alone, but that is exactly what has happened to so many for the last 30 months with the pandemic threat. People have got use to going at life alone. We need to locate the fire. Share with examples of where fellowship can be locate.

Even hot coals will eventually go out if they are not tended to and fed.

Greatest thing we can each do is to raise our spiritual temperature and light the fire of God in our life to spread the flame. Nothing is more exciting than leading a person to faith in Christ. Part of Christian life is spreading the flame.

Every fire begins somehow – it might be a spark, lightning strike, or striking a match. How might we develop a burning interest in reading God’s Word and what it can do for us.

Use the gifts and talents that God has given you to help others. Face your fears and stretch your faith as you begin to step out serve others.

Teen Class: Igniting The Fire (developing an interest in Doing God’s Word) – Brett Petrillo
Fire by nature cannot not be contained, its nature is to spread. Talk about some ways we do the Word of God in our lives? (take a look at the titles in the Lectureship and spend some time overviewing important aspects of the lessons that the teens can use in applying (God’s Word) them to their lives.
