JUNE – CONFESSION

This month our practices will be broken down into three parts: a daily practice, a weekly practice, and a weekly reading. Daily Practice: Each night take some time to reflect over your day. Think about the good things that happened, but also think about any sins you committed during the day. Pray to God confessing your sins and asking for forgiveness.

Weekly Practice:

Confess your sins to an accountability partner. For some, the first step will be to find an accountability partner. This person should be trustworthy and able to keep anything said confidential. Set up a weekly check-up, where you will be vulnerable in confessing your sin. This is best done in person, but a video call or phone call would work as well. This isn’t a practice that we want to end after this month. We want to encourage everyone to make this a practice in their spiritual growth for the rest of their lives.

Weekly Readings:

Week 1 (June 1-7)

2 Corinthians 7:8-13

Week 2 (June 8-14)

| Luke 15:11-32

Week 3 (June 15-21)

James 5:13-18

Week 4 (June 22-28)

1 John 1:5-9

Week 5 (June 29-July 5)

Colossians 3:12-17

Going Deeper:

  • Ask the questions from our January practices for each passage.
  • Meditate on each passage being open to God to help you find sins in your life you need to work on overcoming (May’s Practices).
  • One by-product of confession is reconciliation. Think of a person in your life you have sinned against. Humbly go to that person to ask for forgiveness.

Tips for giving a confession:

  1. Be specific.
  2. Don’t forget internal sin.
  3. Feel sorry.
  4. Don’t take God’s grace for granted. Tips for receiving a confession:
  5. Don’t talk or interrupt.
  6. Don’t problem solve.
  7. Pray for that person while they confess, pray with them after they confess, and continue to pray for them each day.
  8. Forgive them if their sin was against you.
