Linder Road church of Christ youth brought the puppet show to the international community in Boise, Idaho
“The wise man built his house upon the Rock, and the rains came tumbling down…“
The familiar VBS children’s song rang out from behind the puppet theater curtains as a group of teenage puppeteers from Linder Road performed the first of two plays for the children at the Northwest Point Apartments in Boise, Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2022.
The puppet show and watermelon treat was a community outreach event which included two plays, hand hygiene training, and a watermelon snack break. The first play was based on Jesus’ parable of the Two Foundations, more familiar to many as the wise and foolish builders, and included a re-enactment of the parable taught by Jesus in his Sermon on The Mount (Matthew 7), with a contemporary application scene following the parable.
During the intermission, Dr. Kevin provided an entertaining and practical hand washing lesson for the children. They practiced the training at a hand washing station before they were served slices of watermelon and bottled water, all provided as part of the outreach event.

The second play was an engaging rendition of the famous battle between David and Goliath, the Philistine giant (1 Samuel 17). The action-packed story featured spears, slings, rocks, a flying helmet, and cleverly designed costumes which added an authentic flavor to the match between God’s young champion and the giant Philistine warrior.
The sound of laughing children and shared conversation filled the air as the show ended and the kids finished off their treats while interacting with the puppets, the puppeteers, and the rest of the Linder group. It was a delightful time of making new friends and sharing the love of Jesus in this community, where many of the resident families are refugees from other countries, seeking to rebuild their lives in the Treasure Valley.
We are very thankful to have been the hands and feet of Jesus, our Rock and Foundation, striving in this small way to shine his light and love into our community.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.†(â€â€Matthew‬ â€7:24-25)
