This past weekend, several members of the Linder Road Church of Christ teen group attended a youth rally at the Logan Church of Christ in Logan, Utah. There was a great turnout with approximately 90 teens in attendance from several different congregations, including some as far away as Colorado and Montana. It was a very uplifting and encouraging weekend for all involved.
The excitement started Friday night, when we all sang some of our favorite worship songs and had our introductory lesson. The theme of this rally was “No Small Disturbanceâ€, which is based on Acts 19:23, “About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way.†Throughout the weekend, our speaker Brett Petrillo gave 4 lessons that challenged us (hence the name of the rally), encouraged us, and motivated us to be the best Christians we can be.
Adding on to the fantastic lessons, we had interesting conversations in small groups, performed skits, and had tons of fun. We also participated in games and activities that would test us and prove to us that we can share the Gospel with anyone. The last activity of the rally was an interactive simulation of an underground church, with police officers imprisoning and “torturing†(flouring!) the teens who were caught sharing the truth of God’s Word. This activity was especially powerful as the teens were questioned intensely and challenged to persevere in their faith and convert others. Some teens tried to convert even the police officers, while several joined together in singing church songs while in the “torture chamberâ€.
We wrapped up the weekend with a slideshow of the highlights of our memorable weekend, worship at the Sunday church service, and a final lesson by Mr. Petrillo about sharing the Truth, even when challenged or persecuted. We looked at the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7 as an example, along with several examples from Christians who faced persecution around the world today.
It was a weekend full of activities that were fun but also impactful. They reinforced the message that we have to always remain strong in our faith, despite the disturbances the world may put in our way.
