New and Improved Have you ever been shopping in the grocery store and noticed a favorite item claiming to be “new and improved”?  Excited by the possibility of a better, healthier, tastier experience, you look at the package information and realize the only things that have changed are the outside of the package and the elevated price of the item.  The contents remain exactly the same. What a disappointing scenario! The Good News is that this is not the way God wants to work in our lives.  He is in the renovation business and his plan is to transform us from the inside out.  He is not interested in merely sprucing up our external appearance while leaving our hearts and minds unchanged.  His desire is for all people to be…

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90:12‬) The New Year of 2020 is just a few days away and as 2019 draws to a close, our natural inclination is to review the memories and moments of influence we have created as our legacy over the past year.  Sometimes, the review process includes setting goals to achieve various successes in the coming year, and sometimes it may bring a degree of sorrow or regret to our hearts over the losses and mistakes behind us. “At that time, Augustus Caesar sent an order that all people in the countries under Roman rule must list their names in a register. This was the first registration; it was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to their own towns to be registered. So Joseph left Nazareth, a town in Galilee, and went to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, known as the town of David. Joseph went there because he was from the family of David. Joseph registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was now pregnant. While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to have the baby, and she gave birth to her first son. Because there were no rooms left in the inn, she wrapped the…

Senior Saints Luncheon “Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la, ‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la”. This truly is the season for families to gather together, share time and meals, give gifts to one another, and reflect on the deeper meaning of this wonderful time of year.  Just like our biological families gather together with one another, the church, often referred to as the “household or family of God”, also delights in gathering together. The family at Linder enjoyed one such gathering to honor our senior saints on Saturday, December 7, and as usual much food, much laughter, and much love was included in the festivities.  From the comfort foods, prepared for…

“Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭107:22‬ ) This Thursday, November 28, 2019 is our American Thanksgiving celebration, a tradition that has been around since the colonies were originally settled.  Americans traditionally recognize the "first" Thanksgiving as having taken place at Plymouth colony in the autumn of 1621. The Pilgrims held a feast after their first harvest as a way of thanking God for their blessings. They also invited members of the neighboring Wampanoag tribe to join them.Time passed and the colonies merged to form a new country and these “Americans” were familiar with setting aside days of thanksgiving, prayer, and fasting in response to significant events. On October 3, 1789, President George Washington issued a proclamation naming Thursday, November…
