The cure beyond Covid

Home / church / The cure beyond Covid

This year of 2020 has been interesting in many ways, especially in the world-wide effect of a pesky virus.  We have become used to the fact that when we go somewhere outside of our homes, we need to be prepared for some kind of screening, and protection may be required before we are allowed entry into most places.   We need to follow rules like wearing masks, taking our temperatures, cleansing our hands, etc.  All these things are important safety measures that will help us to avoid being infected by or transmitting the COVID-19 virus.

There is another infection that is a world-wide problem, it also requires us to practice precautions and to be screened before entering a certain destination.  This virus is extremely contagious and lethal to those who acquire it, if they are not given the cure in time.  The good news is that the cure is readily available, free to anyone who is willing to take the proper steps to acquire it, and is guaranteed to pass every screening test necessary in order to gain access into the destination.

This infectious disease I am referring to is sin, and everyone needs the life saving cure that Jesus died to provide, in order for us to survive the illness and gain eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life . . . The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (‭‭John‬ ‭3:16, 35-36‬).

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” (‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:13)

By following Jesus as our shepherd and guide, we have the cure for this virus called sin and it’s result, which is spiritual death.  Even better than just being cured, we also gain all spiritual blessings in Christ, we are adopted into God’s family, and we have an inheritance!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places . . . In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” (‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:3, 7-10‬)

There is more good news: by living for and learning to be like Jesus, we are preparing for the ultimate screening test that gains us access to the inheritance of eternal life in heaven.  The preparation is the totality of our faithful lives, lived in obedient love.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (‭‭John‬ ‭13:34-35‬)

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. . . Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:21, 24-25)

Looking for answers?  We invite you to come learn more about how to take the cure and get ready for the screening.

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (‭‭John‬ ‭20:30-31‬)
