State of the Faithful

As unbelievable as it is, we’ve turned a page on 2018 already! One month in – seems like a good time to stop and take an assessment of things. How are those New Year’s resolutions going? Are you still exercising at 5:00 a.m. everyday like you said you would? Have you reduced to one cup of coffee a day like you vowed on January 1st? Just a couple nights ago, President Trump addressed the nation. As a country, we stop annually and take a look at the state of our union (#SOTU). What did we accomplish this past year? What’s out in from of us? These are good questions to ask as a nation…and good questions to ask as those striving to be faithful to God. This won’t take as…

“I think I know the answer…”

Blog
Wednesday evening, 1/10/18, President Trump surprised his Congressional audience when he said, somewhat cryptically, regarding America’s opioid crisis, “I think I know the answer…not sure the country is ready for it yet. Does anybody know what I mean? I think so.” He did not elaborate. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-says-i-think-i-know-answer-to-drug-crisis-adds-us-may-not-be-ready/ar-BBIdFMm?li=BBnb7Kz) What does he mean? Maybe he has some far-reaching border control method in mind to stop the flow of illegal drugs into our nation. Maybe he knows something we don’t know about the current efforts. Maybe he’s just blowing smoke… However, wouldn’t it be great if someone DID have The Answer?! It would be awesome if some politician or leader had the answer for eliminating illegal drugs, eradicating poverty, and stamping out racism. That would change everything, wouldn’t it? I have it. I have…

I love the holidays. I love the decorations, the shopping, the music – I love it all! It really is, in my humble opinion, the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! (If you don’t have Andy Williams’ version of that song playing around the house, check it out.) However, I also know this time of year can be a time of differing opinions. There are those who do not like to connect this time of year with the birth of Jesus – for good reasons. Then there is the “Jesus is the reason for the season” contingent. I appreciate the desire to avoid adding to Scripture of the former, as well as the desire to focus on Christ of the latter. So, since you asked, here’s my two cents on the matter.…

#ChristmasShopping. Man, what an undertaking! Truth is, I have always enjoyed going out and dealing with the crowds, the hustle and bustle, and doing Christmas shopping. However, I just recently had an experience which tried even my Buddy-the-Elf-level enthusiasm for all things Christmas. I was attempting to buy a particular product – which, until post-Christmas morning, shall remain nameless – and of course, the store was out of said product! But, there was another item which was very similar. I mean, it seemed so close. I was ready to just go with it. I looked, compared, evaluated…and almost gave up. But, fortunately, I was informed in no uncertain terms, the two are NOWHERE near similar! (Other than one obvious difference, I’m still not convinced the other item wouldn’t have worked.) So,…

A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

Blog
On December 8th, 1941, US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt voiced these now legendary words, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” American forces were joining the Second World War. [caption id="attachment_6630" align="alignleft" width="300"] The USS Arizona (BB-39) burning after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It would have been a little scary; it would have been a little awe-inspiring. (In today’s terms, he could have said, “It’s ON now!”) And the rest, as they say, is history. US…
