Walk the Talk

Walk the Talk

Blog
October in the Treasure Valley can be beautiful yet unpredictable and Saturday, October 6th was no exception as members of the “Young at Heart” group enjoyed a lovely morning walk about the neighborhood south of the Linder church building, and then shared a delicious brunch together. The weather was cool and cloudy with a hint of possible rain, but still comfortable for walking.  The group included some young ones in age as well as “Young at Heart” seniors who chatted and strolled together. It was a way to connect together across the different ages represented while enjoying the fresh air, gentle exercise and stepping over (or in) a few puddles here and there with the little ones. The fellowship hall was decorated in a harvest time theme for the brunch…

Annual Friends Day

Annual Friends Day

Blog
What do S’mores, friends, casseroles, and singing have in common?  Answer: all these were part of the activities on September 23rd during Linder Road’s 21st Annual Friends’ Day.  Members invited friends and family to join in a day of worship and fellowship, including a potluck lunch provided by the members, and an evening fireside devotional service followed by S'mores and social time to connect to one another in the open air. The annual event is one way the Linder Road church reaches out to those we know and invites them to come and see more about Jesus and his way.  (Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come”. Let anyone who hears this say, “Come”. Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the…

Singing in the Rain Ladies Retreat

Singing in the Rain Ladies Retreat

Blog
Linder Road church of Christ hosted our annual ladies retreat at the beautiful Shore Lodge Resort in McCall, Idaho on September 7th and 8th. Our guest speaker was Tami Roberts from Oklahoma. Her “Singing in the Rain” lesson series was very inspiring and the ladies had a great time getting to know each other. During the 2 day retreat, over 50 ladies spent time in studying God’s word, singing songs of worship, dining together, and soaking in the natural beauty of the lake and mountains. Drawing from her own life experiences and the scriptures,Tami shared practical ways on how to deal with the various storms that may come into our lives.  Her lessons were grounded in the godly wisdom we can find in the scriptures, including warnings, advice and comfort…

Let’s Talk “Church Growth”

Let’s Talk “Church Growth”

Church
God is good, isn’t He?! We have been so blessed! I cannot emphasize enough how great it is we’re dealing with challenges…because we’re growing. Due to our circumstances, I have been reading a lot lately on the ever-changing subject of “church growth.” It’s really an interesting term. I had a class at Bear Valley called “Church Growth.” There’s a genre of books and literature with the same designation. There are great thinkers, many among the Lord’s church, who are considered “experts” in this field. But, let’s think about this for a minute, shall we? To a person we would certainly remind our friends and families the church is not the building, it’s the people. We would not hesitate to confirm the church is comprised of individual, obedient believers sharing in…

Lessons Learned Painting in Guatemala

Lessons Learned Painting in Guatemala

Blog
You learn when you visit foreign countries. I learned a great deal on my trip to Guatemala in June. I learned volcanic ash sometimes looks like black dirt. I learned in some countries corruption is systemic and, to a degree, grudgingly accepted. I learned Jorge Ubico, the dictator – excuse me – authoritarian ruler of Guatemala from 1931 to 1944, had a bizarre affinity for the number five! I also learned a great deal about painting. We painted and did repair work at ITL - Instituto Teológico Latinoamericano (Latin American Theological Institute). I learned about better brush strokes and methods to trim-paint. However, I also learned some lessons beyond just painting… 1) Sometimes we can’t see details best when we’re too close. Painting a wall, or an eave on an…
