Valentine’s Day with Kid’s Care Group

Valentine’s Day with Kid’s Care Group

Church
After a brief beginning last year, and a subsequent 2020 hiatus, we are super excited to announce that we are starting up our Kids’ Care Group again! The first event to ease us back into this group is a Valentine’s Day celebration. As we have many kids who are homeschooling, as well as schools not allowing Valentine’s Day card exchanges this year, we thought it would be fun for the kiddos to have a card exchange with their church friends. We are also planning a pizza party following the 11:00 service on February 14th. Here is what we need from anyone wanting to participate:Decorate your own box or bag and bring it to the church building NO LATER than February 7th (please make sure your name is on it). That way, it will give everyone at least a…

Just a little Slip

Just a little Slip

“Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:26‬) It was a lovely winter afternoon, the sun was shining and the sidewalks were dry after a couple of days of rain. As is my habit, I decided to take advantage of the weather to take a walk through my neighborhood. As I turned the corner onto a familiar street on my route, I noticed a little patch of leaves near the edge of the sidewalk.  It seemed innocent enough.  At the same time, I glanced over my shoulder to look at a group of children walking home from school.   In that brief moment of backward distraction, I stepped forward with my left foot onto the patch of leaves.  My foot slipped, I went airborne,…

A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”  (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:18-19‬) Just like the pure, white freshness a snowfall gives to the landscape, the anticipation of a brand new year fills the heart with hope for renewal in our lives.  As we end another year in a few days, I wonder, what is it that you think about when you look forward to the year 2021?  And what do your thoughts dwell on as you look back on the year 2020? God understands these human tendencies because he created people with the desire to look forward towards the future,…

Star of Bethlehem

Star of Bethlehem

Church
On December 21, 2020 around 5:30 PM, an amazing astronomical event will take place.  It is the first time this event has occurred since the year 1226 AD.  This event is known as the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, alternatively known as the “Christmas Star” or the “Star of Bethlehem”.  This will be the closest orbital alignment of these two planets in nearly 400 years.  And, in fact, when these two planets converge on December 21st, it will be the first time in 800 years that they will appear as a bright point of light that’s easily visible in the night sky with the human eye.   December 21st is also the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere, known as the winter solstice, and it will be the…

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.”  (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭19:1-2‬) They are men of mystery, we find it intriguing to wonder about them.  They are described as wise men (magi in the original language of Greek). They traveled on a long road from the east, over miles of challenging terrain to find an answer to a very important question: “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:1-12) There is little else we are told specifically about these men, their physical appearances are not described, we don’t know how many wise men there were, and…
