PRAY-cation

I know it’s February. It’s not exactly the time, for most of us, to be thinking about longer days and how to spend them. (But I think about it anyway!) Do we stay around town or do we get away somewhere? Do we want a full-fledged vacation, or do we just need a break? I believe the idea of “just needing a break” resonates with many, if not all, of us. I think we all occasionally long for a time to just be off…to relax and think and reflect. I’ve been reading lately about being mindful and how to create good habits. But, without time to sit and think about where I am and where I’m going, it’s all kind of just busy work! This all makes me think about…

Lighthearted in the Lord

Lighthearted in the Lord

"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬ ) Valentine’s Day, like the blossoming of spring, is just around the corner.  Being remembered with a card, candy or flowers on this holiday of the heart, can uplift us and lighten the heart, especially when the gift is from a sweetheart or a child.  Lighthearted is defined as being free from care and anxiety, or being cheerfully optimistic and hopeful. Interestingly, the “heart” is sometimes described as the seat of our emotions, this connection is also expressed within other common idiom, such as: Halfhearted Heart of the matter Eat your heart out From the bottom of my heart Take heart Heart of Gold Heart of Stone Wholeheartedly  Change of heart Jesus has much…

I recently read an article about the importance of attending church services. It was on a “religious” website which, I assume, is read by “religious” people. Does that seem weird? Doesn’t it seem like those are the least likely people you’d have to remind of the importance of church attendance? But, the struggle is real… Every Sunday (every service — Sunday night, Wednesday night, Bible classes) we all know there are people missing from our assemblies who absolutely should and could be there! I get it — there are sick people, people who can’t get out of work, people who don’t drive at night, people who have special events they can’t set the times for, etc. I’m talking about the people who simply choose to go to a movie, or…

Pancakes and Pajamas

Pancakes and Pajamas

Pancakes and pajamas are a great way to start a Saturday morning!  And it’s especially nice when it’s a breakfast gathering with a bunch of the family.  This is how we kicked off our new Kids Care Group at Linder Road. The idea of this group (for kids 6th grade and under) is to create an atmosphere with numerous opportunities for our children to connect and build positive, long term relationships with one another.   It may sound like an insignificant thing to get together in our pajamas, eat some pancakes, and play games together, however, the bonds that we are helping our children to build, as they relate to one another and share their lives together, are stronger than just a temporary relationship. Our intention is to help our children…

New Me in 2020

New and Improved Have you ever been shopping in the grocery store and noticed a favorite item claiming to be “new and improved”?  Excited by the possibility of a better, healthier, tastier experience, you look at the package information and realize the only things that have changed are the outside of the package and the elevated price of the item.  The contents remain exactly the same. What a disappointing scenario! The Good News is that this is not the way God wants to work in our lives.  He is in the renovation business and his plan is to transform us from the inside out.  He is not interested in merely sprucing up our external appearance while leaving our hearts and minds unchanged.  His desire is for all people to be…
