Memories are an integral part of the human experience, bringing with them moments in time that we string together into the pearl necklaces of our shared lives.   As people and cultures throughout history, we have used various tools and symbols to “remind us” of significant memories: Footprints of a newborn child saved on parchment, inked to invoke remembrance of the moment of birth, A crumpled paper holding our child’s first attempt to draw a flower, butterfly or person with the wobbly letters of their name written on this treasured art, A lock of hair, a dried flower, a jeweled ring, A carved stone bearing a loved one’s name. Sunday evening, May 19, 2019 was a time of shared celebration as we honored our high school and college graduates in a festive gathering.  Laughter, conversation, finger foods, and cake were partaken of during this joyful event, which included a brief pictorial slideshow taking us down memory lane with each of these young adults, who have successfully completed this important milestone in their lives. “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance”.  Proverbs‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭ We congratulate them for the persistence and commitment they demonstrated by completing their education to this point.  Our prayer and encouragement is for them to continue gaining knowledge and wisdom, especially in their spiritual growth as Christians.  We are so thankful to the Lord for his grace and…

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. In the United States, Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. The U.S. Congress rejected a proposal to make Mother's Day an official holiday, however, due to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, by 1911 all U.S. states observed the holiday, with some of them officially recognizing Mother's Day as a local holiday. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother's Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national…

What seeds are you planting for the harvest? – Leadership Training for Christ

It is the beautiful time of year when spring is bursting forth all around us, and we start to think about what seeds shall we plant, so that we might have an abundant harvest later on in the year.  Just as we look to the physical soil to plant and grow things, it’s even more important for us to look at our spiritual planting and harvesting. We will reap what we sow in all of these planting endeavors. “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭ Children’s hearts and minds are fertile soil that we, as Christian parents and teachers, need to diligently and purposefully attend to in…
